Ramanan Laxminarayan

Ramanan Laxminarayan is the founder and president of the One Health Trust. Ramanan Laxminarayan is the founder and president of the One Health Trust, and a leading expert on antibiotic resistance. He holds senior research positions at Princeton University, the University of Washington, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Strathclyde. As chair of GARD-P (WHO), he drives the development of new bacterial infection treatments. He also founded HealthCubed, focused on improving global healthcare access. 

Since 1995, Dr. Laxminarayan has been pivotal in framing antibiotic resistance as a global resource management issue. His work, spanning research, public outreach (including a widely viewed TED talk), and policy engagement, brought this critical issue to international attention, culminating in a UN General Assembly discussion in 2016. 

He served on the U.S. President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance during the Obama Administration. He contributed to the Disease Control Priorities for Developing Countries and played a key role in creating the Affordable Medicines Facility for malaria. 

In India, he established the Immunization Technical Support Unit, aiding the introduction of new vaccines and expanded coverage. As Vice President at the Public Health Foundation of India, he significantly expanded its research division. Currently, he leads a major COVID-19 epidemiology study in India, with findings published in Science

Dr. Laxminarayan is a fellow of the American Academy for Advancement of Science and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He has received distinguished alumnus awards and the Ella Pringle and BP Koirala medals. His work is widely recognized in major media outlets, and he has authored over 300 publications in science, medicine, and economics. (Bangalore, India)
