Naama Tamir is co-owner of Lighthouse restaurant in Brooklyn, NY and Lighthouse Output in Manhattan. Born and raised in Israel, Naama moved to New York City in 2000 at the age of 20 after her mandatory service with Israel Defense Forces. Naama studied philosophy and psychology at Hunter College while moonlighting in the hospitality industry at places like Employees Only, Macao Trading Co., Craft Steak, Mainland, and Smith and Mills. Upon graduation, it became clear that her passion lay in restaurants, sustainability, and education. In 2011, along with her brother and business partner, Assaf Tamir, she opened Lighthouse in South Williamsburg, a sustainable, socially responsible, and forward-thinking restaurant. In August 2016, they opened a second location named Lighthouse Output in Soho. Naama is chair of sustainability practices and green initiatives at Bar & Restaurant Alliance, a producer of Umami Food and Art Festival, the co-founder of No Free Lunch sustainability platform, a collaborator in the reusable to-go container project by the New York City Sanitation Department, a co-founder of Unilever’s #FairKitchens movement, and a sought-after guest speaker.
